Video: My Girlguiding journey

It’s Tuesday and it’s another video and this is neither Iceland nor a travel vlog of any kind – this is me, in my Guide uniform, standing in my office, talking about my Girlguiding journey. As I explain right at the start, I’ve been watching Brogan Tate’s video on the same subject since last March, when Girlguiding launched their new branding and she’d evidently just been chosen as a region ambassador. I’ve wanted to make my own version of that video ever since, written and binned so many scripts, discovered that I can’t read out a script on camera anyway, and finally done it!

My Girlguiding journey covers who and what Girlguiding is, my own childhood experience (I started as a Rainbow aged 5 and worked my way up to a Young Leader) and how I became a leader (just kind of never left), my current roles (leader with two sections, leadership mentor, county outdoors instructor, paddlesport assistant, Trefoil member etc), what a typical night at Brownies and Rangers looks like, some speculation about why I do it and an appeal for more volunteers. I know that absolutely no one will cheerily say “Oh yeah, I’ll come and be a leader” but if you can be an extra pair of hands a couple of times a term, or you can offer a skill or take over some of the admin or anything at all, your local unit would love to hear from you.

I think this is going to be the first of a miniseries – oh, they’re not going to follow on from each other but every couple of months, between vlogs, I’ll do another, so if you have anything else you’d like me to cover, leave a comment below. I already know that I’m going to do “What does being a leader actually involve?” and something about outdoors activities. Obviously, none of my girls are ever going to appear on camera, so there will no meeting vlogs, boathouse vlogs or anything showing events but there’s still plenty to talk about.
