Plans for 2016

The New Year is a time for making plans but I’ve had my hands a bit full and haven’t had the time or space in my brain to start thinking about what I’m going to do in 2016. No resolutions (apart from try to lose enough weight that I can wear my rings again – they mostly go on but they feel tight and I often struggle to get them off) but here are a few things I want to do this year:

  • Take the Hurtigruten from Harstad to Tromsø – this is all booked and barring major incident, it will happen
  • Go to Riga and Tallinn
  • Go back to Iceland
  • I’d like to go to Greenland but it seems prohibitively expensive at the moment
  • Finish writing and self-publish the still-untitled Little Book of the Arctic
  • Do my RYA Level 2: Basic Skills in April
  • Think about whether to do RYA Level 3: Better Sailing
  • Do an outdoor photography course of some kind, as recommended by my friend Tom
  • Try out some other interesting activity – windsurfing, maybe?
  • Watch those Battlestar Galactica DVDs I’ve had for a decade
  • Swim more and build up to doing one hundred lengths in one session
  • Walk one hundred miles (not all in one go!)
  • Finish my Guide Leadership Qualification
  • Finish the SWE Senior Section Centenary & Mission Spectacular badges
  • Recruit enough Guides to have Patrols
  • To that end, take more photos at Guides, keep up a blog and wave it at potential new recruits
