This is one of my favourite spots in Iceland. I spent a few nights in Borgarnes over the summer (and a few more on a campsite twenty minutes up the road) and I’ve decided that one day, I want to live here. Sunsets do spectacular things to those ashy mountains and it’s just so nice there. Behind me is a view of Snaefellsnes, on a clear day, and to my left is a five or ten minute walk to the open air swimming pool. Directly in front of me is a little cluster of seafront buildings – small flats and the Saga Museum, which is my favourite museum. I haven’t been in the Settlement part yet but I highly recommend the Egil’s Saga exhibit. It’s both magnificent and a wee bit creepy and I really wish they’d do another saga (Njal’s, maybe) in a similar style.
